Stolen Pattern

A seamstress in another state has purchased a bag from us. She has apparently taken it apart, constructed a pattern, and made her own. NOW SHE'S SELLING THEM AS HER OWN IDEA!!! I have worked so hard with my good friend on making these and it took me a long time to come up with the idea and have spent countless hours and lack of sleep trying to make these and having fun doing it. I don't make much off making these bags if you include all the time spent shopping and sewing. I have put all my free time into making these, taking away time from my kids and husband. Please, for those followers of my blog (and I have not advertised much, and have gotten many responses from people) please support us and help me get the word out about this and blog about this. I am disappointed and saddened by what has happened.

  1. Kelly,
I am so sorry. It is horrible how many dishonest, dispicable people there are in this world. I hope you get a patent on it and she gets in trouble. You have my 100% support!

  2. Well, I left nasty comments at both Bargain Buggy and Coupon Clutch, which will probably never be shown, because then everyone would know what a cowardly thief she is! I will get the word out to all I know! You two ROCK, and unfortunately, people just stink sometimes!

  3. Everything is always going to be copied. And improved along the way! Do you think there is only one company that makes t.v's? Or washing machines? or furniture? or clothes? shoes? someone invented all of these things and put it out there...then other people liked the idea and decided to improve them...Im just saying if you put something out there other people are going to do it too. If you want to be the ONLY one who does it then keep it to yourself! even with a patent, people will copy it..they will just change the name and change a few minor details..probably make it better.

  4. Dear "Anonymous",

You make a good point. However, ethical business people credit their sources. To use your example, when designers come out with new styles of clothing, they do not claim that they came up with the idea of clothing. When perfume manufacturers produce a knock-off, they advertise that their product is "like" White Diamonds or whatever. We recognize that even a patent does not protect our idea. A little ethical courtesy from our copying admirers would have been nice.

  6. Kizer yes that is the lady that bought a bag from us in Dec and started her own website her name is Denise. She mad her own pattern like ours and has published it and is taking credit for it. I can send you the invoice that she bought one from us. We have tried contacting her on multiple times but she refuses to respond.

  7. This is probably old news, but you readers should know that a Stylin' Binder was purchased by Patterns That Fit You on 12/16/09. Since then, we have seen OUR pattern on her website. To make matters worse, the proprietor claims it was her idea. We purchased that pattern with the intent to make a comparison. To our shock and horror, the pieces are laid out EXACTLY to our dimensions. By the way, the document header on the pattern was saved on 12/31/09 at 1:11 a.m. Hmmmmm....

On another interesting note: to alter a product and be within the law, a manufacturer must make no less than a 15% change to the original design.
